How this site is verified.

A legal reference is only as good as its sourcing. These are the rules every page on this site is written and checked under — stated publicly, so you can hold the site to them.

Reflects California law as of July 13, 2026.

01

The statute is verbatim, or it is not quoted.#

Every span of statutory text on this site — everything set in the monospaced register — is transcribed from the authenticated California Legislative Information text at leginfo.legislature.ca.gov, the State’s official publication. Ellipses (…) mark every elision; nothing inside a quotation is paraphrased, reworded, or “cleaned up.” Subdivision letters are preserved exactly, including case — (f) is never rendered (F) — because subdivision case is legally significant.

The law lives in one data layer, quoted from one place. When a section is amended, the correction is made once and every page that quotes it follows. Plain-English translations are printed beside the statute, always labeled, always in a visibly different register — the reader can never mistake the site’s words for the Legislature’s.

02

Case holdings are careful paraphrase — deliberately.#

Judicial decisions are described in verified paraphrase, not block quotation. Verbatim quotation from an opinion is withheld until the quotation and its pin cite are confirmed against the official reporters — a gate each case entry carries individually. Where a decision is under Supreme Court review, its entry says so, with the docket number and the citability consequence (Cal. Rules of Court, rule 8.1115(e)). Where the law is unsettled, the site says unsettled — open questions are flagged as open, and judgment is labeled as judgment, never stated as law.

03

Currency is dated, and changes are logged.#

Every page carries the same dated stamp — “Reflects California law as of July 13, 2026.” — driven by a single source, so the site cannot silently go stale one page at a time. The 2024 amendments govern a civil action brought on or after June 19, 2024 — unless the LWDA notice was filed before that date, in which case prior law governs (Lab. Code § 2699(v)). What changed, and when — in the law and on this site — is recorded in the public change log, including corrections. When this site gets something wrong, the fix is logged there, dated, with its basis.

04

What this site is, and is not.#

PAGA.law is an independent, non-commercial explainer. It is not a law firm, is not affiliated with one, and is not a referral funnel: it sells nothing, runs no advertising, and its help and referral links go only to government and nonprofit endpoints (case entries also link a free public copy of each opinion). It is educational — a map of the statute and the decisions around it — and it is not legal advice. No page here can evaluate your facts; only a lawyer can.

More about the site itself is on the about page.

The takeaway

Verbatim law, labeled translation, paraphrased holdings, a dated stamp, and a public correction log — the rules this site is built to be held to.
